Perhaps only as a symbol, "basement-projects" describes
the nature
of the objects gathered here in a good way.
As a room outside the normal living area,
the basement is often used as a space for personal interests.
In the US, the garage may be the basements equivalent,
while in Hamburg - due to its closeness to the sea -
the attic can also function as such.
In those hidden places, these idiosyncrasies can be pursued
particularly
well with an uncompromised independence.
What distinguishes the collected works in this archive
is probably a 'non-professional' approach,
in regards to their distance to regular spaces and presupposed norms.
In a kind of state of an experiment with a charming unperfection,
the projects are not subject to, or put under, a focus on current forms of an industrial production.
AGO is a collection of objects by different people who encounter
the object in an unconventional way from a wide variety of contexts.
This archive wants to give a glimpse into the projects that
would otherwise maybe sink into the basement.
